Wrigley stockholders approve merger with Mars

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 25 - Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. said its stockholders "overwhelmingly" approved the company's merger agreement with Mars, Inc. at a special meeting on Thursday.

Both companies now expect the merger to close on Oct. 6, a Wrigley news release said.

In April, Mars agreed to acquire Wrigley for $80 per share in a $23 billion deal to take the company private.

Wrigley is a Chicago manufacturer of gum and confections.

McLean, Va.-based Mars produces confections and other products. It operates three plants in Illinois, including a chocolate confectionery plant in Oak Park.
