Freedom Communications committee gets court approval to hire counsel

Bethlehem, Pa., Dec. 23 – Freedom Communications, Inc.’s official committee of unsecured creditors received court approval to retain Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP as counsel, retroactive to Nov. 12, according to an order filed Tuesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California.

As previously reported, the firm’s attorneys will be responsible for assisting, advising and representing the committee in its consultations with the company regarding the Chapter 11 cases; retention of professionals and advisers; sale of company assets; negotiation, formulation or objection to any plan of liquidation or reorganization; powers and duties under the Bankruptcy Code; and investigating the acts, conduct, assets, liabilities and financial condition of the company and its operations.

Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones’ attorneys and paralegals will be paid an hourly rate from $275 to $995.

Freedom Communications, a Santa Ana, Calif.-based newspaper company, filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 1. The Chapter 11 case number is 15-15311.
