MetLife files automatic shelf registration

Knoxville, Tenn., Nov. 6 - MetLife, Inc. and its subsidiaries, MetLife Capital Trust V, MetLife Capital Trust VI, MetLife Capital Trust VII, MetLife Capital Trust VIII and MetLife Capital Trust IX, jointly filed an automatic shelf registration in an S-3-ASR filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The filing for MetLife covers debt securities, preferred stock, depositary shares, common stock, warrants, purchase contracts and units. The debt securities may be offered as convertibles.

The filing for the subsidiaries covers trust preferred securities, which are fully and unconditionally guaranteed by MetLife.

Proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes.

MetLife is a New York-based insurer.
