Merisant files Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Pittsburgh, Jan. 9 - Merisant Worldwide, Inc. filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy Friday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.
According to court documents, Merisant had zero assets and $137.13 million in debt as of Nov. 30. Meanwhile, subsidiary Merisant Co. reported $331.08 million in assets and $560.72 million in debt as of the same date.
The company's largest unsecured creditors include indenture trustee Wells Fargo Bank Minnesota, NA, Minneapolis, with a $225 million note debt claim and a $137.13 million note debt claim and ACH Food Cos., Memphis, Tenn., with a $2.52 million distributor/customer claim.
Merisant is a Chicago-based marketer of low-calorie tabletop sweeteners. Its Chapter 11 case number is 09-10059.
