Moody's rates AIG notes Baa1

Moody's Investors Service said it assigned Baa1 ratings to two tranches of senior unsecured notes being issued by American International Group, Inc. off of its multi-purpose US shelf registration.

The outlook is stable.

The notes are also being offered to qualified Canadian investors.

The tranches include $750 million of three-year fixed-rate notes and $1.25 billion of five-year fixed-rate notes.

AIG expects to use proceeds of the offering and related transactions to increase the net assets of its matched investment program and improve the matching of assets and liabilities in the program, Moody's said.
