Diocese of Albany secures extension of exclusive plan periods

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., June 28 – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, New York received an extension of its exclusive periods to file and solicit votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to an order filed Wednesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of New York.

The court extended the exclusive plan filing period through Oct. 11 from July 13 and the exclusive solicitation period through Dec. 10 from Sept. 11.

“Given the complex issues and numerous parties and constituencies, it is respectfully submitted that the debtor should be afforded the opportunity to continue its efforts to work with the committees, the office of the United States trustee, the insurers and the non-debtor entities to develop a Chapter 11 plan that can be confirmed on consent,” the diocese said in its motion seeking the extension.

The Albany, N.Y.-based diocese filed bankruptcy on March 15 under Chapter 11 case number 23-10244.
