Diocese of Albany asks court to extend exclusive plan periods

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., June 1 – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, New York is seeking an extension of its exclusive periods to file and solicit votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to a motion filed Thursday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of New York.

The diocese asked the court to extend the exclusive plan filing period through Oct. 11 from July 13 and the exclusive solicitation period through Dec. 10 from Sept. 11.

“Given the complex issues and numerous parties and constituencies, it is respectfully submitted that the debtor should be afforded the opportunity to continue its efforts to work with the committees, the office of the United States trustee, the insurers and the non-debtor entities to develop a Chapter 11 plan that can be confirmed on consent,” the diocese said in the motion.

A hearing is scheduled for June 28.

The Albany, N.Y.-based diocese filed bankruptcy on March 15 under Chapter 11 case number 23-10244.
