Diocese of Norwich secures sixth exclusivity extension

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., Nov. 16 – Norwich Roman Catholic Diocesan Corp., known as the Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich, secured a sixth extension of its exclusive periods to file and solicit votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to an order filed Tuesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut.

Specifically, the court extended the plan filing period through Jan. 11 from Nov. 18 and the solicitation period through March 13 from Jan. 18.

The diocese has been in mediation with the official committee of unsecured creditors and other parties in interest.

“All of the debtor’s major constituencies, including the committee, acknowledge that monumental advances have been made over the four mediation sessions towards reaching a consensual plan of reorganization; however, at the end of the fourth session, the parties had yet to reach a final agreement on certain plan terms,” the diocese said in its motion.

The parties were scheduled to engage in a fifth mediation session during the week of Nov. 6 to address any unresolved issues.

“It is important that the status quo is preserved as the parties continue to engage in good faith mediation of plan-related issues in order to transform the hope of a consensual plan into reality,” the diocese said.

The Norwich, Conn.-based diocese filed bankruptcy on July 15, 2021 under Chapter 11 case number 21-20687.
