Diocese of Norwich gets further extension of exclusive plan periods

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., June 14 – Norwich Roman Catholic Diocesan Corp., known as the Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich, secured another extension of its exclusive periods to file and solicit votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to an order filed Monday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut.

Specifically, the court extended the plan filing period through Sept. 30 from June 14 and the solicitation period through Nov. 30 from Aug. 15.

The diocese said counsel for the debtor and the official committee of unsecured creditors, among others, have been discussing issues critical to plan formulation, including claims review, valuation of assets and properties, insurance and other coverage for filed claims, sale of property, resolution of pending litigation against the Congregation of Christian Brothers, and other material matters that need to be resolved before a plan is filed.

So far, the parties haven’t reached an agreement on several issues, the diocese said.

The Norwich, Conn.-based diocese filed bankruptcy on July 15, 2021 under Chapter 11 case number 21-20687.
