Diocese of Norwich’s disclosure statement hearing continued again

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., Jan. 17 – Norwich Roman Catholic Diocesan Corp.’s hearing on approval of the disclosure statement for its Chapter 11 plan has been continued again, now to Feb. 14 from Jan. 18, according to a minute entry filed Tuesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut.

The debtor, which is known as Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich, and the official committee of unsecured creditors are proposing the plan, as previously reported.

The disclosure statement hearing has been moved several times.

This time, Judge James J. Tancredi said the plan proponents have not complied with the court’s directions regarding the filing of the amended plan and disclosure statement, their schedules, and various related motions.

“To proceed with this piecemeal and incomplete approach to a plan that is ostensibly not ready only exacerbates the frustrations of the abuse claimants and wastes time and expenses,” Tancredi said in the minute entry.

The disclosure statement and plan have drawn several objections, including multiple from the U.S. trustee overseeing the case.

The Norwich, Conn.-based diocese filed bankruptcy on July 15, 2021 under Chapter 11 case number 21-20687.
