Diocese of Norwich, unsecured creditors committee seek mediation
By Sarah Lizee
Olympia, Wash., July 11 – Norwich Roman Catholic Diocesan Corp., known as the Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich, and the official committee of unsecured creditors are seeking court-ordered mediation, according to a motion filed Monday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut.
As previously reported, the diocese said counsel for the debtor and the official committee of unsecured creditors, among others, have been discussing issues critical to plan formulation, including claims review, valuation of assets and properties, insurance and other coverage for filed claims, sale of property, resolution of pending litigation against the Congregation of Christian Brothers, and other material matters that need to be resolved before a plan is filed.
So far, the parties haven’t reached an agreement on several issues, the diocese said.
A hearing is scheduled for July 25.
The Norwich, Conn.-based diocese filed bankruptcy on July 15, 2021 under Chapter 11 case number 21-20687.
