Diocese of Harrisburg, insurer want to reclassify certain claims

Chicago, April 27 – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg wants to establish a class of survivors’ claims based on the statute of limitations, according to multiple responses filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

The class would not be entitled to survivors’ claims.

The plan of reorganization from the diocese had provided for a distribution to all survivors.

The responses are partially in response to the insurer’s claim objections.

The settling insurers are making contributions totaling $5.65 million, according to the diocese’s plan and related disclosure statement.

The diocese filed bankruptcy on Feb. 19, 2020 under Chapter 11 case number 20-00599.
