By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Aug. 6 – C. Wonder LLC closed the $12.5 million sale of its brand to Xcel Brands, Inc., according to an Xcel news release.

Specifically, Xcel acquired the C. Wonder and C. Wonder Ltd. trademark and related designs and other intellectual property rights for a combination of cash and stock.

Xcel said C. Wonder is scheduled to launch on QVC in spring 2016. Brad Goreski has been appointed as creative director for C. Wonder and will serve as the on-air personality at QVC.

“This highly synergistic acquisition is a significant milestone for Xcel and will enhance our position as a leading brand development and media company,” Xcel chairman and chief executive officer Robert W. D’Loren said in the release.

C. Wonder, a New York-based specialty retailer, filed for bankruptcy on Jan. 22, 2015. The Chapter 11 case number is 15-11127.
