Van Kampen's Series 1186 invests in North American railroad companies

By Toni Weeks

San Diego, Jan. 6 - Van Kampen Unit Trusts, Series 1186 has registered units of its North American Rail Portfolio, Series 1 in an S-6 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The depositor is Houston-based Van Kampen Funds Inc.

The trust will seek to provide the potential for capital appreciation by investing in a portfolio of domestic stocks and American Depositary Receipts of North American railroad companies.

The rail industry is often viewed as a leading indicator of the U.S. economy, the filing noted.

The $10 units will each carry a maximum sales charge of 2.95%, consisting of a 1% initial sales charge, a 1.45% deferred sales charge and a 0.5% creation and development fee. The sales charge may be reduced on a sliding scale to 1.2% depending on the amount of the investment.
