Stryker to sell LFIT hip replacement products

By Elaine Rigoli

Tampa, Fla., Aug. 25 - Stryker Corp.'s orthopedics division has received 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration for its bearing system, LFIT Anatomic Femoral Heads with X3 Polyethylene liners.

The company said the new implant system, anatomically sized for more natural hip performance, may help to minimize dislocation and its associated health care costs, while providing an alternative to metal-on-metal bearings.

"Up until now, metal-on-metal options in larger sizes only met the needs of a subset of the total hip population. We are excited that Anatomic Heads with X3 liners will help post-operative orthopedic patients achieve their lifestyle recovery objectives," president Mike Mogul said in a news release.

Hip dislocation is estimated to cost the U.S. health care system $74 million per year, the release said.

Stryker is a medical technology company based in Kalamazoo, Mich.
