PrimeCell Therapeutics, Regeneration to develop stem-cell product for orthopedic use

By Elaine Rigoli

Tampa, Fla., Aug. 23 - PrimeCell Therapeutics LLC and Regeneration Technologies, Inc. have agreed to develop and evaluate a protocol for using reprogrammed germ line stem cells in conjunction with biological implants for potentially increased therapeutic value of orthopedic grafts.

The research will focus on the use of stem cells isolated from donated material, mixed with demineralized bone matrix - working toward future research to address their reintroduction into the body of an orthopedic patient.

Future studies could include other clinical applications that would represent additional viable markets for this type of technology, the companies said in a news release.

PrimeCell Therapeutics is a biotechnology company based in Irvine, Calif.

Regeneration Technologies is an Alachua, Fla.-based processor of orthopedic, cardiovascular and other biologic implants.
