S&P lifts Polo Ralph Lauren

Standard & Poor's said it raised the corporate credit rating on Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. to A- from BBB+ and revised the outlook to stable.

"The rating on Polo reflects a strong business profile given the company's well-managed portfolio of strong brands, long track record of successful operating performance, and relatively stable profitability over recent years despite weak retail conditions," S&P analyst Linda Phelps said in a statement.

The company participates in the highly competitive, better priced segment of the apparel industry, which is subject to fashion risk and still-weak discretionary consumer spending, the agency noted.
