Aksys cash burn down during third quarter, R&D spending up

Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 12 - Aksys, Ltd. used cash of $4.23 million in operations during the third quarter of 2006, with cash use of $4.75 million estimated for the fourth quarter.

Total cash used in operations for 2006 is expected to be about $19.15 million, a 34% reduction from the previous year.

Aksys expects to use total cash in the range of $18.5 million to $19.5 million for the full-year 2007.

Management expects research and development spending to account for about 63% of cash used in operations in 2007, compared with 48% during the second half of 2006.
