Darwin Professional Underwriters sets record date for special meeting

Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 2 - Darwin Professional Underwriters, Inc. set Sept. 15 as the record date for its special meeting of stockholders.

The meeting date has yet to be determined, according to Darwin.

During the special meeting, Darwin shareholders will be asked to vote on the proposed acquisition of the company by Allied World Assurance Co. Holdings, Ltd.

Darwin agreed on June 30 to be acquired for $32 per share, or about $550 million.

Allied World provides insurance and reinsurance solutions in Bermuda, the United States and Europe. The company is based in Pembroke, Bermuda.

Darwin is a Farmington, Conn., specialty insurance group.
