Columbia eyes June launch for its new Columbia Risk Allocation Fund

By Toni Weeks

San Diego, March 23 - Columbia Funds Series Trust I plans to launch a new fund, the Columbia Risk Allocation Fund, according to an N-1A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The fund will launch in June with class A, class C, class I, class R, class R4, class R5 and class W shares. Ticker symbols have not yet been set.

The fund will pursue consistent total returns by seeking to balance risks across multiple asset classes that may respond differently to various economic and market environments. The fund intends to allocate its assets so that similar amounts of risk are allocated to equity securities, fixed-income securities and inflation-hedging assets.

When available, the fund plans to compare its performance to the performance of a custom Blended Benchmark, which will have a 60% weighting of the S&P 500 index and a 40% weighting of the Barclays Capital U.S. Aggregate Bond index.

The portfolio managers will be Todd White, Anwiti Bahuguna, Fred Copper, Kent M. Peterson and Beth M. Vanney.

Class A shares will be subject to a 5.75% maximum sales charge. A 1% maximum deferred sales charge will apply to class A and class C shares. There are no other shareholder fees. Management fees and annual fund operating expenses have not yet been determined.

Boston-based Columbia Management Investment Advisers, LLC will serve as the investment adviser.
