By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., July 25 - Collectors Universe Inc. named Shamrock Capital Advisors, Inc. managing director Michael J. McConnell to its board of directors effective July 23. He will also be one of management's nominees for election to the board at the Dec. 5 annual meeting, according to a schedule 13D filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

McConnell entered into an agreement with Collectors Universe to tender his resignation from the board if he, or Shamrock Funds, ceases to own less than 5% of the company's stock or if he is no longer affiliated with Shamrock.

Shamrock Capital Advisors is the investment manager for the Shamrock Activist Value Fund, which currently owns 731,911 shares, or 8.65%, of the Santa Ana, Calif., collectibles company's outstanding stock.

On June 14, Shamrock owned 713,640 shares, or 8.43%, of the company, up from a 6.65% stake reported on May 23.
