PRI touts 29% increase in assets under management to $59 trillion

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., June 2 – The Principles for Responsible Investing (PRI) announced that its signatory base represents $59 trillion of assets under management (AUM) as of April 2015.

This is a 29% year-on-year increase and comprises slightly more than half of the world’s institutional assets (across equity markets capitalization and outstanding bonds and loans), according to a news release.

PRI now has nearly 1,400 signatories worldwide.

The growth in AUM was attributed to new signatories, growth in AUM from existing signatories and updated AUM figures for new reporters.

Vanguard added seven percentage points to PRI’s AUM. Other notable signatories include Harvard University, University of California and Bank of America’s Global Wealth & Investment Management.

“This significant increase in the AUM represented by PRI signatories demonstrates that responsible investment is making clear inroads in the capital markets,” said Fiona Reynolds, managing director of the PRI. “Investors have also begun to realize in recent months that their collective financial muscle can be used to effectively engage policy makers on issues such as climate change.”

The United Nations-supported UK-based PRI is an international network of investors working together to put the six Principles for Responsible Investment into practice.
