S&P lifts Indianapolis Life notes to A

Standard & Poor's said it raised Indianapolis Life Insurance Co.'s surplus notes to A from A- and raised the financial strength rating of its parent company, Aviva Life and Annuity Co., to AA- from A+.

The outlook is stable.

The agency said the ratings reflect the group's very strong competitive position in the indexed markets, strong earnings performance and very strong capitalization.

These positive factors are somewhat offset by large earnings concentration in two product lines -indexed life and indexed annuity - and heavy reliance on mortality reinsurance in the life business, S&P said.
