Markit: U.S. leveraged loans index rise 0.31% in Sept. 3 week

By Sara Rosenberg

New York, Sept. 10 - The Markit iBoxx USD Leveraged Loans index was better by 0.31% in the week of Sept. 3, bringing year-to-date returns to 7.39%, according to data from Markit Group Ltd.

Also, the Markit iBoxx USD Liquid Leveraged Loans index was up 0.38% last week, for year-to-date gains of 8.31%.

Average bids in North America for the week were 94.43.

"The loan market has gotten off to a good start so far this month despite the shortened week. The announcement by the [European Central Bank] outlining its plans to purchase sovereign bonds was welcomed by the markets," a Markit release said.

"Consequently year-to-date returns continued to post new highs. While there are other key events remaining in September for the eurozone that could alter the outlook for downside risk, absent a significant change the market should be inclined to rally," the release added.
