Dow Jones works with Pring Research to develop business cycle index

By Susanna Moon

Chicago, Sept. 8 - Dow Jones Indexes and Pring Research said they will develop and co-brand a U.S. business cycle gauge designed to track Pring Research's proprietary investment strategy.

Pring Research's principal and president, Martin J. Pring, has developed a rules-based methodology that identifies the current stage of the economic business cycle and determines the asset classes and equity sectors that historically outperform during that particular stage, according to a press release from Dow Jones Indexes.

The index "will be well-suited to serve as the basis for ETFs, mutual funds, separately managed accounts and a wide variety of investment products," Michael A. Petronella, president, Dow Jones Indexes, said in the release.

Pring added: "The new index will offer investors and money managers a vehicle that takes advantage of the fact that business cycles move through a set series of phases."

Pring is also chairman of Pring Turner Capital Group, a Walnut Creek, Calif.-based money management firm that allocates assets according to Pring's proprietary U.S. business-cycle research.
