Dannemora unit appeals order to cease iron ore mine surface crushing

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Dec. 23 - Dannemora Mineral AB wholly owned subsidiary Dannemora Magnetit AB appealed a County Administrative Board order requiring it to cease surface-crushing activity at the Dannemora iron ore mine by Aug. 1, 2015, according to a news release.

Under the board's order, Dannemora Magnetit would face a SEK 20 million penalty if it does not stop crushing by the deadline.

According to the release, preparations for an underground crushing station have been carried out but the work is not yet complete, and an environmental permit application stated that, after an initial phase, crushing would take place underground.

However, the board announced that it considers the initial phase to have now passed and that underground crushing operations are a prerequisite for continued activity.

Dannemora said efforts to transfer the crushing activity underground are in line with the company's plans and are part of the previously announced investment package, for which it is seeking long-term financing.

Dannemora is an iron ore producer based in Danderyd, Sweden.
