Calpine posts improved $171.54 million July income from operations

Pittsburgh, Sept. 13 - Calpine Corp. reported $171.54 million in July income from operations on revenues of $784.71 million, according to an 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The figures show improvement over $33.49 million in income from operations reported for July on $574.42 million in revenues.

The net income for July was $92.22 million, up significantly from a $336.34 million June net loss.

Cash and cash equivalents on July 31 were $877.29 million, compared with $844.1 million at the end of June.

The July figures included $625.69 million in electricity and steam revenue and $168.51 million from sales of purchased power and gas for hedging and optimization.

Calpine, a San Jose, Calif., power company, filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 20, 2005 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-60200.
