Brooklyn Hospital Center requests 120-day exclusivity extension

By Jennifer Lanning Drey

Eugene, Ore., June 30 - The Brooklyn Hospital Center and Caledonian Health Center Inc. requested a 120-day extension to their exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Friday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York.

The companies want to extend the exclusive plan filing period to Nov. 27 from July 28 and the solicitation period to Jan. 23, 2007 from Sept. 25.

The companies said the extension is necessary because of the size and complexity of the case. According to the motion, The Brooklyn Hospital Center and Caledonian estimate having total assets and liabilities well in excess of $200 million each.

In addition, they said the case is complicated by their not-for-profit status.

The companies said they have devoted significant time to stabilizing their business operations and administering the Chapter 11 cases in an efficient manner.

Brooklyn Hospital Center's case number is 05-26990.
