Chaiyaphum Wind Farm gets $85 million to fund power plant in Thailand

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Jan. 26 – Chaiyaphum Wind Farm Co. Ltd. will receive a local currency loan of up to $55 million from the Asian Development Bank and $30 million from the ADB-administered Clean Technology Fund to develop an 81 MW wind power plant 300 kilometers northeast of Bangkok.

The plant is scheduled to go into commercial operation around December 2016.

The Thailand government is targeting the development of wind power capacity of 1,800 MW by 2021, according to a news release. It will need significant investment support from the private sector to achieve this goal, since only 223 MW has been installed to date.

Chaiyaphum Wind Farm is a special purpose firm 90% owned by Electricity Generating Public Co. and 10% by Pro Ventum, an international wind power developer based in Germany.
