Collins & Aikman shows $4.65 million April operating loss

Pittsburgh, May 31 - Collins & Aikman Corp. reported a $4.65 million operating loss for April on sales of $116.98 million, according to its monthly operating report filed Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In March, the company posted a $9.89 million operating loss on sales of $166.95 million.

The net loss for April was $8.14 million, a significant improvement over the company's $740.38 million March net loss.

As previously reported, the March net loss reflected $723 million of non-cash impairment charges, substantially all of which were related to goodwill.

Cash at April 30 was $169.1 million, compared with $149.84 million at the end of March.

Collins & Aikman, a Troy, Mich.-based automotive company, filed for Chapter 11 on May 17, 2005. Its case number is 05-55927.
