Circuit City requests four-month exclusivity extension

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Feb. 19 - Circuit City Stores, Inc. requested an extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of liquidation and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Wednesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Specifically, the company wants to extend the exclusive plan-filing period by 120 days to July 8 and the solicitation period to Sept. 6, 2009.

The company said it needs more time to complete the asset liquidation and claims reconciliation processes and develop a plan without the distraction of competing plans.

The Richmond, Va., electronics retailer filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 10. Its Chapter 11 case number is 08-35653.
