Moody's concludes its Bolivian bank review

Moody's Investors Service said it downgraded the standalone bank financial strength ratings of two Bolivian banks - Banco Mercantil SA and Banco Solidario SA - to D- from D, which maps to a baseline credit assessment of Ba3 on the long-term scale.

At the same time, Moody's confirmed the standalone bank financial strength ratings of four Bolivian banks - Banco Bisa SA, Banco Nacional de Bolivia SA, Banco Los Andes Procredit SA and Banco de Credito de Bolivia SA - at D-, which maps to a baseline credit assessment of Ba3.

Moody's also reassessed its assumptions about the probability of government support for Bolivian banks in light of the declining financial dollarization of the country's banking system.

As a result of this reassessment, the rating agency said it upgraded the local currency deposit ratings of six banks and one leasing company by one notch and confirmed the local currency deposit ratings of four banks.
