Arch Coal operating loss shrinks to $19.73 million in April; sales up

Pittsburgh, June 1 – Arch Coal, Inc. reported a $19.73 million loss from operations for April on $140.72 million in coal sales, according to its monthly operating report filed Tuesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

Those figures showed improvement over the $108.29 million loss from operations posted for March on $124.24 million in coal sales.

As previously reported, the March results included $83.57 million in mine closure and impairment costs.

The company also had $298.7 million in cash and cash equivalents as of April 30, down from $395.4 million at the end of March.

Based in St. Louis, Arch Coal is a coal producer. It filed for Chapter 11 on Jan. 11 under the case number 16-40120.
