W.R. Grace creditors object to appointment of futures representative

By Carlise Newman

Chicago, Oct. 29 - W.R. Grace & Co.'s official committee of unsecured creditors has filed an objection in court against the company's appointing C. Judson Hamlin as a representative for future claimants, saying his past as an advisor to the district court on asbestos cases would interfere with the proposed new role.

If the application were granted, the bankruptcy proceedings would be represented by a person who has "unparalleled access" to the district court, the committee said.

"The debtors conduct here raises serious doubts not only concerning the debtors' judgment, but also the fairness and transparency of these proceedings," the creditors said.

The committee filed the objection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Delaware.

Columbia, Md.-based W.R. Grace is a supplier of construction materials.
