McAteer appointed interim examiner in eircom Group Irish proceedings

Pittsburgh, March 30 - eircom Group said Michael McAteer of Grant Thornton chartered accountants has been appointed as interim examiner to the eircom companies that filed for examinership proceedings.

A full hearing on the application is scheduled for April 18.

According to a company news release, the group has entered the examinership process to place eircom's balance sheet on a stable financial footing for the medium-to-long term, with reduced debt.

"We welcome today's High Court order and Mr. Justice [Peter] Kelly's acknowledgement of eircom's strategic importance to the state," chief executive officer Paul Donovan said in the release.

As previously reported, eircom Group subsidiaries eircom Ltd., Meteor Mobile Communications Ltd. and Irish Telecommunications Investments Ltd. submitted an application to the High Court in Dublin to be placed in Irish examinership. Court protection was granted March 29.

eircom Group is a Dublin-based telecommunications operator.
