S&P: Ecolab outlook stable

Standard & Poor's said it revised its outlook on Ecolab Inc. to stable from positive and affirmed its A corporate credit rating.

The outlook revision recognizes Ecolab's strong financial performance, the agency said, but also acknowledges that increased outlays for growth and share repurchases have diminished prospects for further improvement of the financial profile.

S&P noted that Henkel KGaA has indicated in its public comments that it is considering a divestiture of non-core assets, which may include its stake in Ecolab, to fund its own acquisition plans. The agency said its assessment of Ecolab continues to reflect its expectation that any transaction regarding Henkel's possible divestiture of its minority stake in Ecolab will be done in a manner that preserves credit quality.
