S&P affirms Duke Energy, off watch

Standard & Poor's said it affirmed its BBB/A-2 corporate credit ratings on Duke Energy Corp. and its subsidiaries and removed the ratings from CreditWatch with negative implications.

The outlook is stable.

The stable outlook reflects S&P's assessment that, once executed, Duke Energy's plan to sell 6,200 megawatt of merchant generation capacity in the western and northeastern U.S., along with the disposition of its book of electric and gas contracts, will improve Duke Energy's business risk profile, thereby providing support to its credit quality.

The ratings on Duke Energy reflect the consolidated credit assessment of the company's regulated U.S. electric utility operations, Duke Power Co., and the regulated and non-regulated operations conducted by Duke Capital, the agency added.
