Budd asbestos committee looks to hire FrankGrecker as legal counsel

By Kali Hays

New York, Aug. 18 – Budd Co.’s official committee of asbestos personal injury claimants asked for authorization to employ FrankGrecker LLP as its legal counsel through the company’s Chapter 11 case, according to an Aug. 15 motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

If approved, the committee asked that the hiring be retroactive to July 30.

FrankGecker has represented several other asbestos committees and will assist the committee in its investigation of the business conduct, financial condition and insurance policies of Budd, and will advise the committee during plan negotiations and representing it in all legal proceedings, according to the motion.

The primary attorneys on the case will be Joseph D Frank, Frances Grecker, Dwight B. Palmer, Micah R. Krohn and Reed Heiligman.

All attorneys will be paid an hourly rate between $295 and $695.

A hearing to approve the hiring is scheduled for Aug. 22.

Chicago-based Budd made stainless steel rail cars. The company filed for bankruptcy on March 31 under Chapter 11 case number 14-11873.
