Adelphia Communications gets bridge order to extend exclusivity periods

By Jeff Pines

Washington, Feb. 11 - Adelphia Communications Corp. obtained a bridge order to extend its exclusivity periods, according to a Feb. 10 filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

The Colorado-based cable television company will now have until April 17 to submit a plan and until June 19 to solicit votes.

The exclusivity period for presenting the reorganization plan was to end Feb. 17, and the solicitation period was scheduled to end April 20.

In its Feb. 9 motion requesting the extensions, Adelphia said it needed the extension because of the size and complexity of the case, but that a plan that would provide "a balanced treatment of claims and interests" was nearing completion.

The judge issued the order without prejudice so the company can request further extensions if it needs them. This extension is Adelphia's fifth.

Adelphia filed for Chapter 11 on June 25, 2002. The case number is 02-41729.
